The Medical Practice

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Andereck has rejected the constraints of both concierge and managed care delivery models, returning to the traditional model of fee for service. He was involved in early efforts to organize medical care delivery in the 1980’s and early 1990’s but, after becoming concerned with the effects on the doctor-patient relationship, he withdrew from managed care plans in the mid 1990’s. Likewise, he has rejected the retainer model of concierge medicine as one that erodes the fundamental nature of the doctor-patient relationship. In essence, he took the stance that he would work for his patients and not their insurance companies and has remained true to that vision for over 20 years. As a result, patients are given the time they need to understand their health or their medical condition in a way that recognizes their personal goals and values. They have a chance to get to know their doctor, and their doctor to know them.

Dr. Andereck shares an office with two colleagues who have their own private practices, Dr. Jane Hightower and Dr. Carolyn Cooper. The practice is located in the heart of San Francisco and adjacent to the hospital. His colleagues share his philosophy of personal and individualized care. This philosophy is also reflected in his dedicated and professional office staff.

Patients are seen by appointment only and Dr. Andereck is currently not accepting new patients, although other physicians in his office may be available.
